A new internet law introduced by Erdogan’s government has led to angry protests on Turkey’s streets.
Riot police deployed tear gas and water cannons to disperse hundreds of anti-government protesters as they attempted to march towards the Turkish Parliament building in Ankara on Thursday.
Protesters were calling for the release of hundreds of army officers incarcerated on charges of preparing to stage a coup in 2010. Prime Minister Erdogan’s government proposed a bill in Parliament last week that could pave the path for a retrial of the detained former officers.
